Hi all,

My young Flowerhorn appears to have a small lump/bump on either side of its body, does anybody have any idea what this may be?
it has been there for a few days now. Hopefully nothing to serious but if it is, and you know what it is, could you please recommend some treatments?
I really don't want this guy to die he is showing such huge interest in my parrot fish and it would be such a shame to see the poor thing die :(

Thanks in advance.

Where are the bumps at? One of my big flowerhorns has a pimple like thing on it's tail. It also looks like it's on the other side of the tail at the same spot, just smaller. It doesn't seem to bother him and never has. He eats like a pig. The smaller bump is gone but the other bump is still there but a lot smaller. Don't know what it is and how it got there but it's been there for a while with no changes in behavior so I just don't worry about it anymore. Good luck, Ed.

the bump is smack bang in the middle on one side, and further back next to the tail on the other side. This morning the scales appeared to of been coming off. I wonder if its just shedding scales for its newer colour? It's only a pup so this could be a possibility perhaps? I'm going to do a 50%-75% water change later on to see if this helps, my tank is overcrowded so the water isn't to great atm so hopefully a water change will help out :)

I don't know what it might be but a water change might help. You said that the tank is over-crowded.
How big is the tank and what do you have in it. Maybe one of the other fish attacked it because of over-crowding. As far as scales coming off, I've only seen or heard that it's because another fish is attacking it and a small flowerhorn in a over-crowded tank will get beat up. Try to get another tank so it won't be as crowded. During or when you can get another tank, keep the temperature around 84 degrees and add 1 tablespoon of salt for every five gallons. Don't buy aquarium salt because it's very expensive. Just get a large bag of pool salt or salt without iodine (I think it's about 25 pounds). I personally use Morton's salt from Orchard Supply. It will last a lifetime and cost less then $10 compared to the over-priced salt from your LFS. I'm pretty new at flowerhorns but I do spend a lot of time researching them and I hope I can help you. Let me know if you have any questions, Ed.

Sorry for the shabby picture but this is the best I could get, as you can see he has a big white patch of damage on his side. It looks as though the bump has burst or has vanished and the scales have broken of. Any ideas what is happening?

tough pic, but it looks like it's getting beat up from something else in the tank. or burnt itself on a heater.

As others have asked, what size tank and what are its mates?

If it is aggression then I would separate them quickly before there are casulties..
