I have them on several tanks with them. Pretty neat looking and can be benificial, espcially on reef type set ups. If you wanting to add these to an existing set up, may I suggest the ones made by Current. Nice, reasonable prices model that's easy to install.

Are you talking about the blue LED's? I just ordered a set off of ebay. In the meantime I have an 18" tube with a very dark blue cover that I turn on at night. Works pretty good.

well i guess i'm wondering -how long should they stay on - when should they come on etc.

They are a night light to simulate the moon. In a reef tank, where lighting is a little more complex, you would have them come on a half hour before dusk and dawn, while also decreasing your regular light output at the same time. In a freshwater tank that does not need as much daylight, you might have the lunars come on a little later.

Yeah, I have these on my fw tank to see nocturnal fish. There pretty cheap.
