Just realize my pregnant ray is undergoing another problem after another. 1st it was fungus and now the left gill is working at 10%. She's about to pop and wasn't eating for the last two days. I thought it was about to give birth but now I realize it was propably injuries by something I don't know?. Is it normal for the 1 gill not to be working or kit much as the other one ?

Not an Expert on rays but that would lead me to believe an irritation of some sort like gill flukes a parisite ...But if prego definatly not sure how to go about treating or not until she gives birth....Maybe hit up Vamtrev or keepinfish these guys seam to do alot or i have seen them have threads with pups something of this nature is bound to happen to anybody who keeps fpr a while .....

I am sure there are a bunch more guys but those two's names popped into my head ....

I don't think it could be a parasite . I only feed pellet food and there are no other fishes entering into the tank for since. Could it have swalloen a barb?

Breathing out of one side is most likely an indication of gill flukes. I have used prazi during different cycles in rays pregnancy's with no problems. If your ray will eat shrimp instead of pellets it will help until you can treat and also look at your filtration to see if it needs to be clean.

i would guess gill fluke, ph swing, or chlorine

first thing is do a full range of tests

the not eating thing might be because she is ready to give birth

Ammonia , nitrite, nitrate are 0,0,.25 respectively .

What other tests could be done to determine the systoms ?

Also, what is the actual medicine that is ray/pup safe? Brand and name

Thanks heaps

If those tests are accurate and your using prime or another chemical to declor your water and your ph is close to what comes from your tap and shows no sign of swings then it could be parasites.

The reason you would only see symptoms now is because of the stress of pregnancy

I would double check all your water parameters before adding any meds for sure

this is the product they had mentioned

just went threw this. my ray had loss of appetite and was breathing very heavy then couple days later started breathing outta 1 lung. wasnt 100% but i hit the tank anywayz. after few days she was back to her self. on my case a leak of qt was my guess. from my understanding takes a while for the parasite to multiply and infect the host. But skynoch has a great understanding of this parasite and schedule of the meds if u decide to go that route.
