I have a lungfish that is constantly rolling over onto its side or fully onto its back.
It is staying on the bottom of the tank (not floating).
He has also gone off his food.
He seems to be attempting to right himself by wedging himself under driftwood or between rocks, however as soon as he is not supported he rolls over again.
Water Quality is all within normal ranges and nothing has been changed with diet, tankmates or any other factor I can think of.
My thoughts are neurological problem....
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Is this an AUL? Try lower your water temperature to 78-80 F. My old big AUL did that often when I had my water was @ like 86 F. I thought my AUL was dead, but I threw in food and it ate like normal, when it's done back to laying on it's back. After few weeks with cooler water, it was bullet proof since then. Might have to do with the food sitting in the sand for like 3-4 min too. Not sure about the food thing tho, forgot. Ask King-eL, he's an AUL pro. :)

Thanks Hao
It is a AUL.
The temperature is currently around 24 C or 75F.
He seems to be turning always onto the left hand side.
the substrate is a large grain gravel

That's weird. I think King-eL said something like food sitting in the tank for 3-4 minute before it eat could cause like food poisoning or some sort. Just do your reg WC. Does your AUL still eat tho?

he is attempted to eat..picking up the food mushing it up and then spitting the majority (if not all of it) back out.
thanks for the info. hopefully king-el or someone else can shed some more light on this.

How big is the aussie lungfish. Usually smaller lungfish at around 8" or smaller are prone to food poisoning especially when eating left over shrimps. I had a 6" that did the same thing when I forgot to removed the left over shrimps for 2 days as I was away on camping. When I came back the small aul was swimming unbalanced. What I did was did a lot of water change and added activated carbon to the water to absorb some of the toxics. I also added sea salt about 1 tsp per 10g. Place the temp at 80-82F. Mine started to recovered in about 5 days.

thanks for the advice king-el
this guy is fully grown...between 3 and 4ft.
i will try raising water temperature a little and adding carbon, the tank is already brackish to accomodate some of the other fish in the system.
