THE GARDEN STATE
Getting ideas for my empty 75Gal. i was in the local fish store the other day, and there was a tank with albino bichirs. Then a small lungfish caught my eye. Ive seen these fish in the past but i'm not very familiar with the species. :feedback: Can i put these two species together? How large will each grow? will they out grow my tank?

depending on the species of lungfish, they range to max out at 2-5ft and my guess is the albino bichir is a senegal which only max out at 12" or so.. i don't think the albino bichir would do well with the lung :) ..

get 2 lungfishes instead or 2 birchirs. dun think can comm them together for very long as they max at different sizes

Depends on the species of lungfish All African lungfish generaly are intolerant
of tankmates and should be kept in a species tank.
South american lungfish are generaly considered to be the lungfish of choice if you want other occupants in the same tank.

Notice the term generaly in my comments because it really depends on the individual fish some individual africans may be more tolerant than others and some south americans might not be as torleant.Unfortunately generalities are all we can really go by -Anne

Bichirs are really generaly non agressive. The key with them is get fish they are non agressive and to big to be eaten.Usually species that are deep bodied and over 3- 4'' adult size are safe. This of course depends on the bichir species -Anne

i keep all my bichirs with cichlids. jags, midas, polleni, flowerhorns, had others in with them as well. cichlids never seen to pay any attention to them i even got a comon wolf in with mine right now. Ive got my eye on a lung fish also and im wondering how it gonna sdo with my ornate and lapradie. Guess we all gonn have to just buy then then find out what happens huh

Yeah, you have to say "generally", because you always get some a-hole who says "but I have done it...." I have Worked in fish stores for quite some time, and I wish I could hang up a sign saying you are not allowed to say that. My fav. is when someone comes in and asks fo your advice, then argues with you. e.g;
:y220d: Are Bala sharks aggressive?
 Not usually. Best kept in groups, these are very peaceful fish.
:y220d: But I had some before, and they killed everything in my tank!
:) What else did you have in there?
:y220d: Some of these, those, some yellow and black fish, a couple of convicts- :headshake The convicts are what's killing everyone.
:y220d: But I had them before with mollies and they where fine! It was the sharks!
 Fine. what size tank we talking?
:y220d: 10 gal.
:shakehead Oh, Jesus, that's too small for Bala's, anyway.
:y220d: No, fish only grow to the size of there tank.
:shakehead Absolutely untrue.
:y220d: What about an Oscar?
:22_yikes: Are you kidding me?
:y220d: I've done it before.
:wall: Then why the $%##%*(^(*%^% are you asking me?
:y220d: I had a buddy that kept pirhanas.....
:swear: WHY THE #@!%$()*&*#@^&*(y(&^(#&^(*#@%^( ARE YOU ASKING ME THESE QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE JUST GONNA ARGUE WITH EVERYTHING I SAY???$%#^$*
...........................And so it goes on, weekend after weekend...................................
