Thought I'd share an experience I had with my old Lepidosiren paradoxa. This guy hatched in 1989 and was doing well until it developed a lump in its' belly. Last week it began floating with the head pointed downward. Today after 29 years he died so I decided to take a look at the hard lump. Turns out it involved his liver. My initial thoughts on this is possibly a fatty liver. He would take earthworms, bits of cooked chicken and of course lots of game fish pellets (Purina and other brands). So just some thoughts for anyone else out there who might wind up with a lungfish that develops a hard spot in its' belly. Also after 29 years with this species I am interested in anyone else's perspective if you've maintained a similarly long lived lungfish (although I'm not sure if the 29 years counts as long lived).DSCN9545.jpg DSCN9546CR.jpg DSCN9547CR.jpg DSCN9549CR.jpg

29 yrs of keeping in a home aquarium is a great achievement imo.

Wow, 29 years! This is like a 2nd confirmation that SALs live for more than 20 years.

Just found a dissection on a SAL. Looks like you were correct about fatty liver.
