I am a new lungfish person. I joined because I am in desperate need of infomation. I was given a lungfish about 2 weeks ago. I think he is a protopterus annectens, 13in. He was doing very well the first few days. Very active, feeding twice a day, and seemingly friendly. Then he stopped eating and had what I assumed was ick on his head. Treated that with Pimafix and Melafix, next day it was better. Eyes start getting cloudy though. Two days after first ick appearence, white cluster of something coming out of his anus!! Cluster has steadly gotten bigger, ick is now on head and two fins, eyes look like death, and now skin seems to be sloughing off in a few small places! Today cluster looks pinker and ick looking stuff on it too. From reading through other postings, there was one talking about white worms, one about cloudy eyes, and shedding even. Can this happen all at once? Put him in sick tank, app 16 gal. Continue to treat with Pima/Mela and stress coat, have added salt have done 50+% water changes. Temp is 80-84, although at first had hard time getting it to maintain. Ph 7.5, good/bad? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I love this fish! Thank-you in advance.

first in a 20 gal, with plans to move to a 55 gal. But he got sick first, now in 15 gal sick tank.

15 gallons is WAY WAY WAY WAY too small......That is the problem...55 is not even close.....90 in a pinch....180 for a cramped life...240 getting there....300 now were talkin...good luck bro :)

Not right this moment....But he should be in nothing less than 90 for any period of time at this moment....less than 1 year from now...yes 300.....

melafix and pimafix aren't for ich.

just turn the heat up slowly to around 80*-85* and add in aquarium salt to treat the ich.

it sounds to me like you have either a nitrate or ammonia problem, do you have a test kit? also, you might want a better medicine, use Tetracycline..works like a charm for the problems he's having.

Nitrate is 20ppm, nitrites 1 ppm and ammonia 0.25. Temp currently at 84. Have been adding salt. The Mela/Pima was suggested by someone else who uses it for their fish ich. Will get and try Tetra though, thanx!

nitrites should be at 0, same for ammonia. whats your water change schedule? and whats the filtration like?

i've never heard of using pimafix or melafix for ich treatment..
