Hi. I know everyone has asked this question 100 times, but I want your opinions, please.

One of my fluvals broke, again, and I'm so tired of fixing my filters....

So, I am going to buy one immediately.

What is the best, in your opinion, filter for a large fish. I keep hearing about Eheim. Never had bought one before. If it's Eheim, then which one is the best of that brand.

I'm really looking for a filter that will last and not break. I was always purchasing parts or buying new fluvals and using parts from one and putting on another, etc.

Thanks a lot.:grinno:

I have three eheims and I have never had the first problem with one of them. My oldest one is only about seven years old but if you do a search you will find quite a few people that have been using them for 15 years or more non-stop.

As for which is the best for you, it kind of depends on your budget. I really don't think their is a "best" eheim, they are all great filters. It just depends if you want bells and whistles or just a plain, basic filter.

Eheim pro 3 E :)

what fluval filter(s) were u using?

I have about 6 fluvals on my 2 125 tanks. I have owned so many in the past. All are about 304, 305, 405, etc. I just seem to go thru them quickly and thought this was normal (they last me about 2 years). I do a lot of maintenance, maybe that's why they fall apart more. I clean each fluval 1/month. My Renas I don't like, but they always work and don't fail on me like the fluvals. My penguin hang on filter is about 8 years old and it's also my least favorite. Was thinking about getting the newer large orange - grey fluval professional one, but am too tired of fluvals now.

Just really want to upgrade and I wish there was one filter out there that everyone agreed was the best or had the "if I had the money I'd get this one..."

Eheims are supposed to be very reliable. They don't have much flow though, so an aquaclear 110 would be useful for mechanical filtration.

Keep in mind when comparing eheims flow rate to other canisters that eheim's flow rates are taking into account media. The other canisters calculate their flow rates empty.

my fluval is the same...constantly breaks down and always when im away so the fish are without a filter. i now have 3 filters on (part because im overstocked now part coz the fluval breaks lol) the tankl as back ups...if all 3 fail then it just wasnt meant to be.
i was thinking an eheim too so im guna lurk on here for a bit lol

With a lungfish you want a lot of mechanical filtration so I'd go with a couple of big HOBs. Lots of mechanical filtration and easy to clean.

A canister doesn't make much sense because (unless you're using a pre-filter on the intake) it's going to be full of bits of food, poop, etc. pretty quickly...and require taking apart...and cleaning.

And, especially as lungfish get bigger, you don't want to have your hands in the tank a lot messing with a pre-filter.

I had two big HOBs on my lungfish tank...and did 50% or more water changes every week.
