My lungfish just attacked my shovelnose. The lungfish is about 27" long and the shovelnose is about the same. They are in a 185 gallon tank along with an oscar. Well the lungfish just got put in his own little home for a while. until I get my indoor pond built.
The shovelnose is in pretty bad shape, I think. He has a deep but small gouge halfway down his back and his skin is torn for about 2-3 inches toward the end of the tale. It does not look like the meat is hanging out of the cut, but it still looks like it hurts. Will it hurt to treat the entire 185 with the oscar in there? I hate to add to the stress of the shovelnose by moving him.
What do I treat with?

aquarium salt? not sure for sure how your individual fish cope. somone will know though. what type of lungfish. a lot of people on here keep them in sp. only tank due to agression when older

I think it is an African Lungfish. I have had them in the same tank since they were only a couple of inches long. I am building a larger tank to separate them now. The Lungfish just started showing signs of aggression in the past month. I knew it was comming soon but not this soon.
Thanks for the quick reply.

s'ok. theres a number of african lungfish though so duno which one yours would be. got a pic?

im guessing yours would be the West African lungfish (P. annectens) but there is
marbled African lungfish (P. aethiopicus)Marbled Lungfish
gilled African lungfish (P. amphibius)East African Lungfish
spotted African lungfish (P. dolloi)Slender Lungfish

A shovelnose will tolerate salt at 1 tbsp. per 5 g salt and melafix would not hurt either, you can also swab the would with iodine. Oscars will tolerate both melafix and salt.
