Hello all! I came across this forum searching for information on the Myxocyprinus asiaticus. Years ago I had three juveniles in a 75 gal planted tank, and I only learned about how enormous they grow after I had them settled in. Typical newbie idiocy, I thought they were 'cute', and the employee said nothing but 'how many do ya want?' and bagged them for me. I know better now but still find them fascinating, just not something I'll ever be able to keep again. My little fellows were rehomed when I moved, to a friend with a home-built 'pond tank' that covered much of the basement floor. Probably still not big enough but better than the 75, I hope.
I've been enjoying your photos and stories! I read the entire saga of the House of Sam rebuild with envy.
I may never be a MFK other than vicariously but I salute you who do right by your charges.

hi ya, lol wev all been there i think, buying something and realising, usually, too late that 'ahhh they get to 8ft...and my tank is...yep 2ft. k back to the store u go'
at least u realised early lol.
welcome to mfk

The idjit that caught the 'cute little hi-fins' for me told me they'd be *fine* in my tank except they'd probably wreck the plants!
I'm stuck as an apartment dweller right now and don't have space or budget for anything large. I'm hoping to set up a 29 planted, maybe a pair of Kribs or Rams? I've had good luck with blue rams in a planted tank before...

off to do *proper* research before I even buy the setup. I've been reading the lfs customer horror thread, enjoying every bit as I've worked in pet stores and have encountered the same people!

but I didn't know snakeheads were banned in the states?!?! We sold them at the pet store I worked at in the Philly area years ago, 'red snakeheads', nasty buggers... would bust nets and break bags... or am I transposing common names to the wrong fish?

Hello & Welcome!
