A while back I posted I thought our oscars might spawn well tonight they did and they are only 8inches long bought them in Jan. at about an inch and a half. What are the chances of raising or hatching any the first time in a coounity tank or should we pull the eggs and hatch them in another tank.

Agree leave the fry in for the first time, they will protect them as best they can,if the fry do not make it they will spawn again very soon. My oscar pair spawned two weeks after i removed the fry(everytime)i started leaving the fry in the tank for the others to eat because they spawned back to back so frequently. But the more they spawn the better they get at it.

Let nature take it's course. Congrats.

To late my wife put the eggs in another tank this mourning I'll talk her into it next time I'll keep posting our progress.

Turns out my wife didn't move the rock but eggs don't look fertile is this a cmmon problem the first couple times they spawn or might we have a problem the breeding tubes were differsnt shape and size on the 2 so we asume we have one of each sex.

It's possible (if you have a pair) the female is mature enough to lay but the male hasn't figured everything out yet. Give them some time to mature further - and maybe post a couple good pics of each too, easier to confirm the sex with pics.

I thought oscars were almost impossible to sex by looking at them but when they were spawning yhe one had a short blunt breeding tube and the other a long pointed tube we are asuming this was the male are we right.
