Is the tank bare bottom and less hiding place? Most small bichirs will try to hide.

well, I live in a tropical country, and I never use a heater, other than for treatments. It is normal for bichirs to hide since they are noctural, though if there are no hiding spot in the tank they will piles themself in the corner. My bichir seems to enjoy the vibration of the power head; they like to stay on top of it.

You also never stated how big it was?

My Bichirs like to 'Bichir pile' to hide even further, even when under cover.
