So I am debating what pet to get next. I am pretty much decided on crested geckos or lygodactylus williamsi. if anyone knows about any info on the williamsi, it would be appreciated. also, what are your opinions on how much to feed cresteds CGD. Thanks in advance.

Well I guess the question is do you want a nice, small display gecko or something you can take out and interact with?

I feed my adult cresteds CGD every 3 days. Babies/juveniles get fed every other day.

Lygodactylus are cool but are like keeping fish. Just fun to watch and feed. I helped care for a breeding pair for a while and they were adorable. They would run in and out of their PVC jungle gym so fast they were little blue blurs. Cresties are just as entertaining but bigger and you can interact with them more. And In my opinion a little cooler since they make noise and are so calm

Lygos are very active during the day which is the total opposite of cresties. They're quite comical to watch and it's neat to see them interact with each other. Some of mine are downright fearless and will happily run up to you and take a small cricket out of your hand. You can design a pretty cool tank for them too. Here's a photo of a grow out tank for some babies I hatched. I put it together the other week after I got a good deal on a 18"x18"x24" Exo Terra. It's nothing special because I like to keep it somewhat simple when they're still little. They can be impossible to find in a heavily planted tank! Both my adult pair tanks are heavily planted.

I don't mind not handling, but if I could, I would do it occasionally. I am not home most of the day (7th grader) and I would like to see it when I come home. My first question is would either of these species be ok with a temperature gradient with the cool side being up to 80 degrees occasionally? and my second question is how much (volume) does a crestie eat of the CGD if it isn't being fed anything else? thanks for the help guys. if i get one of either, it will be from vicious

Cresteds make great pet herps due to the fact they can handle average household temps rather well. But when temperatures reach into the high 80's they become very unhappy and when they get in the 90's it can be lethal. I see you're from Texas so I can only assume you have pretty hot summers. As long as you keep them in a temperature regulated room, cresteds would do fine.˙My crested tank has a temperature gradient from about 69-82 F. and I'd have to say that 3/4 of the time they spend on the cold side of the tank. Lygos on the other hand like a temp gradient from the mid 70's to he mid 80's along with a basking spot close to 90 F.

As for the CGD, I can't honestly say how much they eat each time. I drink a lot of beer so I use the bottle caps as dishes for my babies/juveniles. They can lick a cap clean by the time I remove it (24 hours later usually). One of the large Rapshey CGD bags would easily last you a year. I buy mine from our one vendor and mod Msjinkzd.

its just during the summer that my room gets up to about 82 occasionally. Will either one fit in a 12x12x18 inch zoo med naturalistic terrarium? (i have one already)

12"x12"x18 would be great for a Lygo or even a pair. I'd be leery about keeping a single crested in there because it's not very wide so it's hard to have much of a temperature gradient.

The minimum recommended enclosure size for an adult crested gecko is 20 gallons. The ~10 gallon you've got would make a good starter cage for a smaller crested. I keep my adult pairs in ~50 gallon enclosures and I have ~65 gallons just about complete to move them into (eventually there'll be a trio in at least one of those 65s).

In terms of volume of CGD consumed... measure in terms of how little CGD you can mix at a time. I have 5 adult/subadult cresties and 5 hatchlings at the moment. I mix up 1 tsp of CGD every two days (becomes 3 tsp with water). Sometimes everyone cleans their plates, sometimes I can't tell if anyone has eaten a thing. If I had a single crested I might try mixing up 1/8 tsp powder (3/8 mixed).
