Ok i have a roughly 7" M. dayi whos always out front and center wanting food. I saw it yesterday morning but not last night when i turned the lights out. Wasnt there when lights came on today either and now i see that the intake on my fx5 is open a bit. I assume from one of my bigger fish freaking out and running into it. Anyways its big enough for the eel to go through so im thinkin hes in there so here are my questions..Normally i would unhook the hoses and drain the water with the valve on the bottom/side but im wondering if that would suck him down there and hurt him if hes even still alive. If i simply unhook the hoses and open it will water come spilling out everywhere? I guess im just trying to figure out how to get him out safely but also without making a massive mess...what would be the best way to go about this...?

Ok well i guess it was easier than i thought. I just unplugged it and unhooked the hoses and went to get a flashlight. When i came back i heard what i thought was water dripping from the fx5 hose then i realized it was the eel flopping around on the ground behind the filter. So i picked him up and tossed him back in the tank and besides being covered in dog hair he looks ok. Not sure if he came out when the water spilled out when i unplugged the hose or if he just swam toward the light and ended up 'falling' out. Either way hes back in the tank and hopefully he'll be ok. Also going to ziptie the intake so this cant happen again..
