Posted this in the eel forum but thought maybe more ppl would see it here. Ok i have a roughly 7" M. dayi whos always out front and center wanting food. I saw it yesterday morning but not last night when i turned the lights out. Wasnt there when lights came on today either and now i see that the intake on my fx5 is open a bit. I assume from one of my bigger fish freaking out and running into it. Anyways its big enough for the eel to go through so im thinkin hes in there so here are my questions..Normally i would unhook the hoses and drain the water with the valve on the bottom/side but im wondering if that would suck him down there and hurt him if hes even still alive. If i simply unhook the hoses and open the top will water come spilling out everywhere? I guess im just trying to figure out how to get him out safely but also without making a massive mess...what would be the best way to go about this...?

turn it off and unhook the hoses is my guess ,,,,good luck ...I hope its ok

I THINK IT might get a little messy no matter what :(

Lol well thank you for the replies =) . I went out and turned it off and unhooked the hoses then went for a flashlight. When i came back i heard what i thought was the fx5 hoses dripping so i checked it but it was actually the eel flopping around on the floor behind the filter. Dont know if it came out when the water spilled out after i unhooked the hose or if it swam toward the light and 'fell' out. I picked it up and put it back and besides being covered in dog hair it looks alright. The important thing is hes back in the tank and hopefully he'll be ok. The intake will be getting ziptied so this wont happen again...

And.. alls well that ends well.. spiney eels are tricksty buggers!
