M/FM Dovii

I recently got a Male Dovii from Jeff Rapps about 2 months ago. How can a person distinguish the difference between a male and female at 3" long. Here is a picture. He is 5" long now. As you can see in the pics he is starting to get some color, some days are better than todays pic.

I am going to get a FM but I need to know exactly what I am looking at so I know what gender I am getting.

Day 1 is first picture and the last 2 are from today.

Females will have less spotting, and less color on the gill plate.

I lean more towards male too, but at that age it is still hard to say for sure

heres a pic of my pair at 7". the male has the typicall spotting everywhere. the female is more yellow and without the spotting.

About how long was yours when lost the stripe and went to a solid color. That picture really helped too.

he's over 8" now ans still has the stripe, that pic was taken while he was courting the female so his colors were drastically changed. heres a pic of him normal.

Thats a kool looking male Dovii. I have had my male Dovii for about two weeks now and he is around 3' inches. I cant wait until he grows some more. I love raising Cichlids, but I am becoming hooked on Dovii. I will probably end up in Dovii rehab. lol

The dead giveaway is the spotting in the unpaired fins. Spotting + male. No spotting = female.
