I have a customer that sent me a photo that's too small, it comes from a decent digital camera and they are using i-photo, but they don't know how to export it at a maximum size. They are probably exporting it web size.

I don't use macs, for those that do, could you tell me some intructions for exporting a photo at maximum size/dpi from i-photo? :)

I'm not sure if a max is like PC where you can simply hook the DC up, it appears as a removable disk, and you can go into the root folder and copy/paste the photos at their original size.

Thanks.

How did they send you the photo?

During the setup process of the digital camera you can make iPhoto the default importer of the images when a camera is plugged in. I prefer to set it up like you say where the cam shows up as a removable disk.

The version of iPhoto I use (I use it to just organize my photos at work and like iTunes, you can share them with other iPhoto users on a local network) all you have to do to get the high res version out of iPhoto into an email is to drag the thumbnail into the email. This brings the actual full res file the into the email.

If the user is using iPhoto and decides to send an email out of iPhoto, they should have the option of sending 240x320, 640x480, 1280x960 or full resolution. I have a feeling this is what they did and emailed you something in the lower size range.

I see I see, thanks, yes it was just by email. Do you think it would be more fool proof to tell them to drag the thumb into an email, or send an email from iPhoto at full resolution? :)

I say first find out the method they used to send it to you.

I think the easiest way is to have them send you the full res image is to drag the thumb into the email unless this is what they did originally to send it to you.

One problem though: What if the camera was set to take pics at low resolution so they dont have anything higher than what they sent you?

mj - 1 more Q if you please - is there a quality option in iPhoto, does it save at various levels of jpeg compression or is there not that option? :)

Cheers,
Joe

sorry it took so long to get back. Im getting ready for SEMA in Los Vegas.

Unfortunaltly, iPhoto does not ask what lever compression to use for email. At least my version does not.
