OK so as some of you know I purchased some (what were sold to me as) "Whisker shrimp" or "Indian Whisker Shrimp". I currently have 4, 1 is seperated because she berried. Today I noticed the eggs on the female are nearly CLEAR, they have been green. She just had a molt about 2 days ago. She is in a 5 gallon by herself with good filtration and a small bubbler. She has been eating shrimp pellets, and flake when she will take it. I also have java moss and some duck weed in with her. I assume it will be anytime now I just don't know what I should do next or if I should just set back and observe. Should I hatch some brine shrimp eggs? Should I add salt to the water? I can't really find any good information about these guys. After doing a lot of hunting and compairing pix I think Macrobrachium Lanchesteri is the technical name, and from what I am being told from others. Anyone care to offer some input? I'd like to breed these so when the poly gets big it will have something to eat, dwarf shrimp aren't as promising as I had hoped...LOL pretty soon they will be waaayyy too small for the poly.

I believe M. lancasteri completes its life-cycle in fresh water, so salt should not be necessary. I don't know what size prey the hatchlings take, but it couldn't hurt to start an infusoria culture for them (basically just mash up some lettuce in a cup of water and let it sit).

:WHOA: Can I use egg yolk like I have read others using with their fry?

Sorry, I wish I knew. I haven't bred any macros yet; hopefully in the next year or so I'll get the chance.

Well I will let you know how things go. This is a first for me. I will try the infusoria culture thing but I have no idea how to tell if I have done it correctly. We shall see I suppose. Thanks for your input!

If your water looks cloudy, it's probably got infusoria. I forgot to mention that you should use tank water, not tap water, to start the infusoria culture.
