Hi was looking at the thread which spiny eel is best for me . It looks like the surviving eel sent to me is the siamensus which gets to about 8" I was just browsing ebay now some sellers have eels listed as macrognathus siamensus but using internet photos of the macrognathus aral which I saw can grow quite big I realy think sellers should use photos of the actual fish they are selling as you could end up getting the wrong fish like me getting the tyre track eel and peacock eel instead of a yellow tailed spiny eel it is a real mine field out there I tell you this forum is a gold mine of information

It’s very common for spiny eels to be mislabeled. A lot of them look similar enough that they are put into the wrong category, but the sizes range so much that it can be a huge difference. Something sold as a half banded spiny eel, which has a max size of about 12”, could be a tyre track eel, which can get up to 36”.

Yes if your saw my other post instead of a yellow tailed spiny eel I got a tyre track eel which died within 3 of me getting whih I think it spent about 17 in package with no heat pack if it didnt die I would have had a major problem on my hands with regards to keeping it

I think the importer / supplier lists are to blame, you order a box of x and get y. The re-seller can be informed of the wrong fish and doesn't have the experience to tell the difference. Fish losses through poor transit is shocking, it is similar in the reptile market.
