This is my 450 gallon tank dedicated to Malagasy cichlids. It houses 6 species of cichlids and those are Paretroplus menarambo, Paretroplus maculatus, Paretroplus dambabe, Paretroplus nourissati, Paretroplus kieneri and Ptychochromis grandidieri. I am hoping to add more species in the future if they ever become available and working right now on breeding the ones I have. So far success have been achieved with the P. menarambo and the P. grandidieri. The P. nourissati have spawned several times but the eggs get eaten right away. The P. maculatus are in breeding dress as I type this so maybe I'll get my first spawn from them in the next few days.

Ivan

PS. The P. grandidieri are extremeley shy when I am close to the tank so I can never get good pics of them.

Nice collection you have. You gotta watch those paratroplus when spawning. The macs and the menarambos can crossbreed.

Thanks. You know, I have always heard that warning about the possible hybridizing but to be honest with you, I have had 3 different pairs of Menarambo breed in the tank and not once have they chosen to pair with a Maculatus. By the same token, the Maculatus have gotten their breeding colors and have paired off but never laid eggs. But they have never paired off with a Menarambo. Call it dumb luck so far or maybe it is the fact that if they can choose, they will choose their own species.
Not sure what to think.
But rest assured I am always watching them closely to avoid potential "wrong" pairings.

Loving how you combine all the malagasy fish together. i want to do that once I get a chance to expand my current tank. How big are your menarambo and maculatus. I heard maculatus can get up to 11inches......I have mine for a few years now and they seem to stop growing around 9''.

Keep up the good work.

My biggest Maculatus is 10 inches. I think the Menarambo and even the Dambabe get bigger than 10 inches as well but not sure. My biggest Menarambo is about 10.5 inches or so.

I am working on getting you more to go with the ones you have. It is nice to see someone dedicated to working with these threatened fish as the destruction of their habitat is quickly affecting the numbers in the wild. There are not many people working with them in the hobby from what I have heard. Remain patient and I will get you more. Take Care
