ive decided to take a step back from fishkeeping..... at least from the agressive and expansive aspect. im still keeping my ]v[onsters, i love them too much to switch to planted:grinno:

its just that alot is going on right now. i cant afford the upgrades and speed at which ive been upgrading.

i just want to sit back and enjoy what i have, not constatnly looking for new and exciting speciemis. its wearing me down.

point in this being...........im not getting my Ansorgii:cry: :(

several factors led to me making this discision:

1. the price: its $500.....alot of cash but worth it
2. potential size: we dont know how big it might get, which is exciting in its own, nut im alreadyh struggling with my gar.
3. pssible reaction to my other tankmates: he mught not take to kindly to my current bichir, and $500 is alot to blow on a fish that might not work in my tank
4. time: in 2 years im leaving to colledge....the fish that dont come with me will be in the care of my family, mostly my little bro that ive been rearing for the jod scince day 1. thing is, mistakes happen, and id ratehr i made them, not him.
5. Money: i need to start thinking bout other things.........i need a car/motorcycle, and some other cash laying around for emergencies. so i need to cut sumthing back, and fish seem to be the only thing. not gettin rid of them, just gonna stop expanding.

i need a break, enjoy the "keeping" aspect and less of the spending part.

ill be around here like ussual, and i may still pick up a few more fish. im still trying to get this mormyrus i found here in maryland to cali.:naughty: but that will be the last, and if i dont get him i will close the book on more fish excluding a widebar/indo datnoid.

so, just wanted to hear what u guys think about my discion, i wa sooooo excited about this, but i just cant do it. i cant take a gamble and hope it doesnt get as large as P. Bichir Bichir u know? if only it was 6 years down the road.

yeah im in the same place as you.i've spent approx £2000 on fishkeeping in the last couple of years.i keep buying new fish, keep them for a bit,get bored, take them back to the lfs, lose loads of money, then do the same again.i told myself its got to stop.im keeping what i got and sitting back and watching it grow and im going to enjoy my fish.fishkeeping is too bloody addictive.

i think we all go through that stage.

About a year ago i downsized from keeping 4 tanks to just one main tank. Reasons why? I couldn't keep up with maintenance because i had too much other more important things going on. I had other things to spend my money on. I'd love to buy an ansorgii and some of the other new endlicheri variants or those good looking kolibas, but those are luxury expenses, which i don't have the cash for. Also, my tank is perfect right now, all the fish are healthy, they all get along, maintenance isn;'t too bad. THings are in equilibrium and i'm content with whats going on.

Maybe somewhere down the road when i have a steadier income and more time and space i'll invest in a bigger tank with more of the fish i want, but nows not the time

I'm right before that stage... All my fish are less than half grown and my tanks are full. It's rather frightening, trying to think ahead about which fish you will keep and which will have to go back, or wondering if you'll move from the apartment in time to keep them all. Always wondering... "could I fit another 55 over there?? or there??"

*sighz*

i feel like im in the same boat, i want 1 new tank to house all my fish, and tear down the rest of my tanks... having 5+ tanks gets tiring to keep up with... and all i do is find another kind of fish i want to own. AND my taste for fish is going UP and UP in price. first i thought "40 bux for an arowana", then 80 bux for some gars, then 100+ for some rays. now im lookin at 1,000+ for a new tank, more rays, i want some endlis, it NEVER ends.

I managed to go four years without a tank at home until last April. I just got tired and had to stop, but like I always say "It's a habit.....NOT a hobby!" Sometimes we just need a break so we can get refreshed.

wow, thtas why i love these forums.....
no matter what ur goin thru, someone esle is in the same boat :)

thanx a ton guys,

im still gonna try and get my hands on that mormyrid:nilly:

Been in that boat so many times over the years-diifcult to avoid. I've a gar now which will have to go at some point due to space but other than that I've made a very conscious decision to only keep fish my tank will hold. I've lost a lot of money on fish which I've had to take back due to compatability-the bloody LFS give you nothing & when you go in again they're charging silly money for the same fish. This pisses me off.
you always want a bigger tank-this website sees to that! Like you I'm now going to sit back and enjoy watching my fish mature and grow-I'm due to move soon and would like to upgrade the tank size but the stock will stay the same.

KEEP WHAT YOU GOT AND WATCH EM GROW.THATS ALL IM GOING TO DO NOW.IVE CHANGED MY FISH AND INTERIOR 10'S OF TIMES.FEED UM UP AND WATCH THEM TURN INTO MONSTERS.

PS SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS ON,BEEN PLAYING GUILDWARS FORGOT TO TURN IT OFF LOL
