Somebody locally to me is selling a mag 18 for $75 (only 1 week old) and I may purchase it for my newly acquired 225 gallon tank. I will more than likely be using an old 55 gal as a sump.

Any thoughts or feedback on the Mag 18? Will it be too much pump or is it sufficient enough? $75 a good deal? I will eventually need a pump if I use a wet/dry filter and this will be my first time actually utilizing a sump.

I'm using a mag18 on my 180 and it wont be too much for your setup. Great pump, quiet doesn't create a lot of heat. I have a 1" outlet splitting to 2 x 3/4 returns. It's working great for my 2 x 1" inlets to sump. Mfg recommends 1 1/2 outlet hose for best flow. Good price for virtually brand new - why is it being sold.

Thanks for your reply. The person selling it is cutting back on his tank setup but unfortunately just found that the sale is pending right now with someone else. But if it falls through, ,ore than likely I'll get it as I eventually need a pump...just trying to find the best fit for my 225 gal w/ 55 gal sump.

Bump...anyone else with inputs?

Hopefully going to get it today if the deal with somebody else falls through.

I own a MAG 9.5 and a MAG 12. I'm very happy with these pumps. Been running for a couple of years with no issues. Very quiet. I recently bought a MAG 24 but had to return it because it was simply too noisy for my house. It drove me nuts.

I know a couple of guys who own MAG 18s and they like them although they're a tad noisy.

That's what I heard about the mag 18. I was hoping to get just get a mag 12 for my 225...I'm still wondering if it's still too much pump.

Anyone out there w/ a mag 18 which can speak on the noise and whether it might be too much return for 225 gallon tank?

I have a mag 5, 7, 9, and I think a 12 or maybe it is an 18 on my pond...

Very happy with all of them and I would not buy another pump unless i needed something super big....

Good Luck!

their great i own a 5, 12, 18 they run very cool if you ever have to dismantle note that the ceramic shaft to the impeller can break easily

You think the mag 18 will be too much "pump" for my 225 gallon tank?
