Well the in-line pump for my w/d sump broke down last night. Need a new bump real quick since the whole tank is on a canister filter now.

It's a 220 fresh water tank with mostly SA fish. Three 2.5" PVC intakes so that shouldn't be a problem. The return will be at the top, approximately 5' high from the pump.

I'm thinking about a Mag Drive 12 (supposed to be 1200 GPH maximum flow with a 15` shut-off). Would it be sufficient?

Will appreciate some quick inputs. Thanks!

Thanks Pounder!

So is mag 12 better than mag 9.5 or mag 18 in my case? I don't want the current to be too strong but of course need sufficient turnover.

Also - does anybody have experience with Blueline 40 HD-X?

i have a mag18 for a 180 gallon and wished i went with a mag24.

I have 5 ft of head and out put is split to 2 returns.

Visit www.marinedepot.com and look under their pumps, it gives out all specs on what GPH they will produce at which head in a side by side comparison. I would go with one model higher than what you expect you'd want, as the pumps will wear down over time :)

Also, check with the new Koralin Magnum series of powerheads for water movement, they only suck down 10 watts per hour but put out 2400 GPH - excellent to place at the floor of a tank to suck up all the poop into the water column. Maybe just go with the bare minimum for your return and use the powerhead intermittently to help clear things up :)

riva d has a mag 36 for 75 bucks!!!! check him out!

Thanks guys - appreciate the input.

Called up my lfs and they had a brand new Blueline 40 HD-X for $65.99. Not sure why but went ahead and bought it. Need a trip to hardware store tomorrow for some connectors...excited.

I've heard great things about bluelines but the low price makes me wonder. The pump sells for 165 online and lfs usually jack up the prices by alot, i'd be expecting around 250 for the pump.

I like Mag drive pumps I use them in my 220, 265 and my pond, and have not had any issues with them. A Mag 12 with a 5 foot head throw will do 1,120 gallons per hour, so in a 220 gallon aquarium your tank will turn over 5.09 timer per hour.
