Sonce i moved my l200 out of the main tank algae is building up on the glass. Anyone use a mag float ? Are they all the same or are some better than others ?

I personally do not like the Mag-Float scrubbing bristles. So, what I do is cover the bristles with craft felt. I cut the felt a little bigger than the surface area of the bristle area and hot glue the felt to the sides of the magnet. Works great! I actually bought the knock off versions off EBay for 1/2 the price of a Mag-Float.

Thanks guys i didnt realize there were differences in acrylic and glass.

Are the knock offs as good as the mag float brand ?

Most of the knock off mag scrapers sink if they come loose. Mag-Floats will float to the surface for easier recovery if they become loose. As far as cleaning capability, they're all about the same. I usually use a bonded floss pad over the manufacturer's scrubbing surface. So, it doesn't matter what brand you buy if using an alternative pad. Just make sure the one you buy will float or, be prepared to roll up your sleeves.

I use them, they are OK.
Need to be wash out algae periodically, and the magnets lose pull after a while.
I get the strongest ones, and put a piece of cloth between the outer glass and tank, to wipe the outer glass as well as clean the inner.
If I don't use it often enough, algae gets into the microscopic flaws in the glass, and a razor blade is needed.

I have the xtra large knock off version for my 180, and you do not want ever to have your fingers between the magnets. So, yes they work just fine

Ok thanks guys.... that little pleco really kept the glass clean but damn the poop is just never ending
