Hello a couple magdrive 24 quistions, I'm not sure what the mag drive 24 comes with haven't ordered it yet. What do you need to connect the out put to 1" id tubing. and will it hurt the pump to put to put a control valve in the line and turn it down 1/4 to 1/2 percent depending on the actualy flow after loss and through media. Allso what to use to control the flow that much with out it blowing the line off. thanks

also incase you are curious. the reason for buying the 24 and turning down the flow over the 18 is so in the future can be used on a larger tank.

Any Mag Drives I have had, have threading for PVC, which makes it easy to add PVC Unions, or Valves.
It does not hurt them, or any centrifugal pumps to throttle them back on the output.
It is not good to throttle back the input, this can lead them to burn out.
I like to add a Union on the output to make for easy maintenance, such as cleaning out the volute, or impeller cavity of the pump.
I had one Mag drive run 24/7 for almost 20 years, turning off only occasionally for maintenance, and replacing the impeller, at around thee 15 year mark
Below a threaded Union is screwed right to the pump

Just a little extra info on Mag Drives, they run warm, and sometimes give off enough heat to negate the use of a heater in some tanks.
They also tend to vibrate, and hum. So if the tank is in an area where quiet is important, getting one should be a consideration.
Even though mine were in a basement, I put a sponge under the pump, to keep vibration noise down and put sponges anywhere the plumbing would create noise. My X could hear it vibrate from the floor above at night.
Because of the heat they give off, and that they also use a chunk of electric, I started replacing them with Laguna pumps as the Mags wore out, the Laguna's seemed to use a little less power, and "not" give off as much heat.

I would consider a DC pump over a Mag Drive or a Quiet One, they are by far a quieter pump and they usually have an electronic flow control.

Thanks duans. Thats what i was curious of if the threading from the out put was the same threading as pvc or other fitiings thanks. I know it is 1". So if you could thread it right into a pvc shut off or union thank you. Will look into the laguna option as well

Thanks monkeybike i was going to buy a quit one 6000 i have seen some terrible reviews on them thow. I was once looking at the dc pumps because you can get them with the electronic controler but ha e seen terrible reviews for them as well even being dead right out of the box. Have tou had good exsperience with them thanks

At least the last time I bought one, the Laguna didn't have PVC threading, and i had to use tubing with a hose clamp, the only mildly irritating downside for me to the Laguna.

One thing I did like was the casing on the Laguna pond pump option.
Because I don't compartmentalize my sumps, the housing kept floating stuff like plant parts and some detritus out, also things like medium to large MTS snails. This made it easy to just hose off the housing if clogged, instead of needing to break down the pump itself for maintenance.
The plastic screws that hold the housing halves together are a bit wimpy though.
I really like the ease of working with PVC, and that I can get it, valves, union, and other parts at local hardware store. I slap like once glued, i don't need to worry about clamps coming loose on plastic tubing.

I've been running a Jebao DCT12000 for almost 2 years non-stop without any issues

I second the Jebao pumps. I have two Jebao DCP 8000’s on my 220 and they have been running non-stop for over a year with the exception of being turned off every weekend for water changes. I run them around 60% and they are extremely quiet. That gets me a total of about 1600gph of flow. Since you can turn them down with a controller, they actually use less electricity when running lower in flow.

I recommend getting two pumps and running each a bit lower on power. This is a good redundancy in case one goes out, and the pumps run quieter on a lower setting. At high settings I’ve heard others mention that there is a whine noise. They also see less wear when running at lower settings.
