I am currently setting up a 560gal tank using 3 mag18 pumps on a overhead filter with the pumps hidden in the overflow box. with this setup i will need to use some sort of prefilter.
my question is to anyone outthere who uses the prefilter that usually comes with the pump.
Does it restrict flow alot or is it not enough to worry about????

i dont use the prefilter due to it restricting the flow w/o any debris in or on it with ur filter above would b much simpler to filter there, big hassle otherwise trying to retrieve the pfilters from the pump

I have used several large MagDrive Pumps with the included prefilters... when perfectly clean they do slightly slow the flow and the more they get clogged the more they slow the flow.

But not using a prefilter will likely stop, not slow, the pump.

If they only slow it a little I am ok with that.
I dont mind cleaning it every couple of days or so because im always messing with my tanks anyway, I was just worried that it would slow it alot.

Also, I never used a wet/dry type filtration before and with this setup taking headloss in consideration I will have a turnover rate of 6.6. I usually aim for a 10x turn over rate but I have heard that with the extra bio and mechanical filtration that these type setups have the turnover rate doesnt have to be as high.

Will a turnover rate of 6.6 with moderatety stocked cichlids be enough???
