Hey everyone. I added a Marineland Magnum 250 to my tank yesterday to do a little water polishing. This filter is SO loud. I am running 2 rena xp3s that make absolutely zero noise. All I can hear now is this grinding noise from the 250. I checked inside the filter and it looks like it has enough water in it. And there isn't much bubbling coming from the discharge. Do you think this noise will go away after awhile? Or is something else going on that I need to be concerned about?

u got sand gravle charcol in the impeller area mine are noisy to its part of owning a mag

I'll double check the impeller but I don't think anything could have gotten in there yet. There's about 1 foot between the sand bed and the intake. Plus I have a piece of foam around the intake. Since I'm just using the Magnum to polish, I guess I'll just run it every few days while I'm at work so I don't have to hear that racket.

It's most likely the impeller. I had a Magnum 350 and it would have a grinding noise whenever there was something in the chamber that holds the impeller. Shut it off immediately because the impeller is made of a magnet and whatever grinds against it will cause grooves and will throw the balance of the magnet off. Trust me, I've had to buy 2 impellers because of this, The Doctor.
