I got a used magnum 350 canister with a purchase a while ago. The guy said it needed a new impeller and magnet. When I plug it in. I hear nothing... I assume thats because there is no impeller turning? I just don't want to spend 30 dollars on the replacement, when I could buy a brand new one for 80... Unless I can be sure, that it would be silent, if no impeller was in it.. I'd have a little more confidence ordering the part that is 1/3 the cost of the entire unit.

So does anyone know what it would sound like without a impeller

i dont think it makes any noise, maybe some vibration if you touch it

I have a 250 and dont hear a peep. Only time I know its running is when I see the water coming out.

easy take it apart exept impeller put in water and plug in. wont be pretty but you can see impeller spinning or not. just thought about it are you pluging it in dry? if so thats not such a good thing. will need an impeller.

I should have mentioned that the whole magnet and impeller is missing. I'm guessing it got set somewhere when he was gonna get a new one and got lost. So I can't really test that option. I did run it dry for about 10 seconds. no heat, no vibration, seemed as if nothing was happening at all. Just trying to figure out if it's worth it to buy new or spen 30 dollars on the replacement parts and gamble.

oh wow! no the base wont make any noise. the impeller is the noise maker and please dont put water in the base. did it come w/ the manual? impellers are cheap and the only moving part you should be fine

No filter is going to make any noise without an impeller. Do you know how they actually work? Inside the motor is an armature that when plugged in makes the impeller spin. Without an impeller nothing happens.
