I don't think it has a leaky seal or anything, and there is never much muck in it. I've got the internal chamber filled with lava rock and the usual blue filter sleeve around it. That's all. So am I getting anaerobic action or something? It will be clear for hours and then, out of nowhere, start spitting air. It isn't enough air to interfere with the flow, but it goes on for a long time, which makes me wonder what in the world is going on inside and whether it is normal. Anybody else encounter this?

well when i first turn it on it spitts a lot of bubbles and then spits micro bubbles for about an half hour

I have a filstar XP3 that does this because the fish actually cause it to suck in air from a airstone once in a while. It seems to store a little then let it all off at once. Check out all the fittings and if you are using one move the airstone.

Hmmmm. Like you guys, I get a lot of bubbles when I first turn it on. But then later I get more. So air must be getting in during the week. I guess I'll have to check out the seals a bit more closely next time I rinse it.
