Here&There
I am thinking about adding another filter to my 240. Right now it has adequate filtration, but you can never have too much, so... I am trying to decide whether to spend less and get a Marineland HOT Magnum 350Pro with the biowheel and water polishing capabilities OR spend more and get a Hagen Fluval FX5. I am leaning towards getting the FX5. Anyone have experience with both filters? Either one? I have never had a Magnum350 or FX5 so any advice would be welcome.

i don't really know, but i would get the fx5 because a lot of people on here have one and say it is a fantastic filtration system, and I would choose it over the magnum350 pro because I'm a big fan of hagen products :D

I would go with the FX5.. Probably just because ive had a bad experience with the magnum and water all over my hardwood floors

Fx5 XD

Two entirely different filters.
Really comparing apples and oranges.
The FX is a complete, all inclusive filter.
The Mag is a pseudo can used mostly as a water polisher, that they hooked with a bio wheel trying to palm it off as an all purpose canister.
So, the question is, what do you want the filter to do for you?
If it`s a water polisher your after, don`t get the Mag Pro. Save a few bucks and get the HOT250. At $65, or so with shipping, it will do a super job of pulling free floating debris and can make your tank sparkle. Plus you can easily move it from tank to tank, without much hassle.
If it`s great, all around filtration your after, go with a real canister.
The FX might be more than you need, depending on what you already have running.
An Eheim classic, 2217 would be a good choice for an all purpose, quality filter.
$0.02

So... nobody has anything good to say about the Mag350? I know that the FX5 is the better filter, but I am already running 3 fluval 404s, and emperor 400 and an emperor 280 on my 240. My fish will be monsters but right now they are just small fries so I dont HAVE TO HAVE either one. I prefer the FX5 even though I have three tanks and not one "water polishing" filter. Consensus seems to be to spend the extra $200-250 and polish my new FX5 instead of my water.
