Over there
These are labelled as blue and silver mahseer's. I did some research and, for blues, I found there's Thai and Indian, and found absolutely nothing for silver besides fishing stuff. Can you guys tell me the exact species and whether they're from India or not? I need mahseer's that can handle cooler temps, mid 60's-low 70's. I know the Golden's can but these are cheaper than those plus I'm not a big fan of Golden's lookswise. Thanks

neolissochilus stracheyi thailand

Silver one with white tip on fins and black upper and lower tail edges is neolissochilus hexagonolepis (copper). I have those outside with no problem.

You can find neolissochilus hexagonolepis India so it should handle the cold. My water drops to 55deg in the winter. People have kept the neo stracheyi outside in socal with no problem. You do risk losing them though. I tried it with some barbs and lost them after two winters.

I just want to say that raising mahseers outside in socal has been enjoyable and very simple. I hardly put any time into maintenance or feeding. I got like 75 (many variety) of them from Wes at 1"-2" and now they're 24" in a few short years. The sun/algae and pond volume (1600g) helps keep everything stable. This summer I'll be gone for three weeks and I'm not going to worry about them. My cichlas in the garage on the other hand have been a lot of work. Thank God someone's going take them all this weekend.
