my Tor progeneius are spawning -

can't believe it - have been out all day - just got back - the pair have dug a proper spawning red in the gravel - leaving the larger pebbles in place and are quite happily spawning - amazing - unfortunately I have missed most of the action and the other fish in the tank are all full of Tor eggs -

bodes well for the future though.

must be doing something right !!!!!

nice! keep us updated!!!

none of the eggs survived - no surprise given how late I was in seeing the spawnign activity -

interesting nest building - the only photo I managed to snap was of the nest - they moved all of the gravel from an area aproximately 18" diameter and actually moved larger pebbles into the remaining depression.

I think the trigger may have been a drop in temperature - tank temp runs at about 74 degrees so on the cool side - but is at the back of the house where there is no central heating - the spawning coincided with the coldest day of the winter with outside temps failing to rise above minus 2 for 3 consecutive days. - the tank temp dropped below 70 degrees.

The fish themselves are small - the female being about 18" long, the male being about a foot - interestingly the male exhibited white stripes on the dorsal and ventral rays of the caudal fin and black stripes in the rays of the anal fin - this in a fish that is normally a uniform silver / gold in colour - the female intensified gold.

The tank is 6ft x3ft x 2ft - loads of tank mates of course -

we shall see if she comes into condition again - or whether it is an annual occurance

Wow! It would be really cool if they do it again! Do you have some pics of the fish wich spawned? Any thoughts on wich are males and wich are females?
