I have always shyed (is that a word) away from ordering fish through the mail, prefering to keep what i could get locally or with a relatively short drive. Plus the shiiping cost can be excessive at times. But as i want to get more rare/exotic fish I find myself having to reevaluate.

How have most of your experiences with mail ordering fish been? I see and read posts that lead me to believe most experiences are positive.

i have never lost a fish over the mail, but I have also only bought from reputable sellers

I've done it a few times. It's always scary becuase you don't get to pick the fish so you never know what its going to look like. There is also the fear of opening a box full of dead fish. No dead fish in the 3 times I've done it but it's been 50/50 on quaility.

I've had good luck so far as far as receiving all of the fish alive and healthy. You just have to get used to the idea of really having to pay for what you want.

Sometimes you can get stuff shipped by bus cheap too!

I've only done it once, and my only problem with it is that I like being able to see the fishes I'm purchasing before taking them, and that isn't normally an option in these cases.

Buying online is the only way I can get any kind of fish besides what PetsMart sells. Do a google search for "seller name +reviews" and you'll get a good idea whether you can trust them or not. I've had excellent luck.
