What are the main differences between them regarding color, size, and temperament?

senegals are a plain grey colour depending on subtrate. Other than that, the temperament and size is pretty much equal. They both grow to around 12 inches (depending on genes) and they are considered the more outgoing and active species of bichirs. Palmas just has a larger variety of color with some green and pale yellow and spots. A bit rarer too.

Down by Central Cali all you will find is senegalus and endlicheris so anything else is considered a rarity.

im in norcal

so, in a 55 gallon, a palmas polli is an option that i will not need to upgrade for??

Like they said palmas is harder to find and more expensive than a sen. A lot of the times u will find senegals labeled as palmas so be careful. The main difference between palmas and senegals are that sens are solid while palmas has a circular pattern around the lower half of its body and usually consists of yellow spots. And as far as the 55 gal goes, some people say that its good for life but I personally would only go as low as a 75gal then again that's just my preference.

Polys are for the most part very social so I don't see why not. And even if u have all the room in the world u will often see polys just pile up on each other in a corner lol
