(Tl;dr (If you were too lazy to read it all)

Paraneetroplus is back to being called Vieja

Only 3 fish are in Paraneetroplus: P. bulleri, P. gibbiceps, and P. nebuliferus.

P. Argentea and Regani are now part of Maskoheros

Herichthys Bocourti and Pearsei are now part of Cincelichthys

Festae are now part of a new genus, Mesoheros

Only 2 are in the Tomocichla genus: Tuba and Asfraci

Cichlasoma Salvini is now in the genus Trichromis

There are now only 2 left in the Cichlasoma genus (once almost all CA/SA cichlids were in this genus) which are ‘C.’ tuyrense and ‘C.’ sieboldii

Theraps lentiginosus and Theraps coeruleus are now in Rheoheros

Thorichtys and Herichthys species remain unchanged, policies for naming them as have, however changed.

Theraps heterospilus is now called Oscura Heterospila

Multispinosa are part of Herotilapia

Cichlasoma grammodes are now called Chiapaheros grammodes

Great bit of info. thanks for sharing. I saw this earlier and contemplated sharing it but I was confused by some of the wording so being unsure I hesitated to share it.

Vieja
Fernández-Yépez 1969
includes the type species V. maculicauda plus V. bifasciata, V. breidohri, V. fenestrata, V. guttulata, V. hartwegi, V. melanura, and V. zonata. These species are distinguished from most other herichthyins by possession of a large blotch covering the majority of the caudal peduncle, which extends anteriorly as a dark stripe in all members except V. maculicauda. They have all recently been included in the genus Paraneetroplus.

ParaneetroplusRegan 1905 is now restricted to contain only P. bulleri, P. gibbiceps, and P. nebuliferus. These taxa differ from other herichthyins by the elongate body and caudal peduncle, and narrow, sub-terminal mouth.

To me the above seems to be saying(just MO) that some of those that where recently added to Paraneetroplus are now back to being called Vieja again. Specifically maculicada, bifasciata, briedohri, fenestrata, guttulata, hartwegi, melanura and zonata.

While Paraneetroplus now only has bulleri, gibbiceps and nebuliferus.

If it wasn't August I would have thought this was an April fools joke. Now let's see how long these name changes stand within the scientific community.

Thanks for the link.

I am starting to think they just want to keep us confused. The odd part is that people are still using the classes from 20 years ago or more.

Thanks for the link.

If I were trolling, I'd be ALOT more silly and vulgar.

Can't say it wasn't needed though ... some of these have been orphans for almost 35 years now.

Well I enjoy vieja more anyways. Easier to type out.
