My office is facing a multiple day power outage. What are suggestions for helping my tropical fish to survive? I think biggest issue will be filtration. All suggestions welcome

If you can't run a generator, get some battery powered air pumps to oxygenate the water. You can get them usually at hunting and fishing stores if the lfs doesn't carry them

Got a couple of battery powered pumps. Have them running. Word from electrician is that it will bE five days without power. Any clue how long the batteries last on a pump before they need replacing?

Figured I should update the outcome of this situation. Made a few trips back to the office over the 5 day outage. Through it all only lost 1 fish. I'll take that as a success. Batteries lasted about 11 hours for each pump. Thanks for all of your help.

Good job!

That's why every tank should have a sponge filter IMO to prepare for this kind of event. I forgot to turn on my discus tank for the whole week after w/c (blame it on the quietness of the eheim classics!), only had the sponge filter running the whole time and all the fish were fine. On the battery operated aerator note, I just bought a cheap one from Walmart yesterday at a fishing section intended for live minnows, and it says it runs 36 hours on 1 single D battery! I hope they didn't mean supper battery type, but we'll see...if I got any fish from the upcoming road trip.
