Might be to late for her, but here it is about 2 days ago i noticed a lump on her head and she quit eating. then yesterday i worked 14 hours and didnt get much time to deal with my tanks today i get home from work to find this.

Im in total confusion but there is a large chunk missing from her head. HITH?
also a week before this she had layed a fair amount of eggs but that may or may not be related. thanks for any help on this one.

that can NOT happen within a day or two naturally!!!! Eather another fish bit her or she smashed into something very HARD!!!! any fish in with her????

if i am not mistaken HITH happens over a long time period. Definitely looks like another fish took a chunk out of that fishes head. Probably two bites.

She is in with a couple smaller sevs some tiger barbs a 3 plecs, but i noticed a fairly large boil looking thing on her head before this then it must have popped. like i said i have been working a lot and havent had a lot of time with my tanks it may have been there before i noticed it.

It looks like a bad case of furunculosis, it starts as a swelling, reaches a stage that looks like a pimple, then ruptures, it is somewhat contagious. There is also a type of aeromonas bacteria that causes quicky developing lesions like that though they tend to look bloodier and are more common in cool water fish such as koi. I suggest googling fish diseases and looking under skin diisorders. A combination of Maracyn and Maracyn often works, as does Binox. You can also swab the wound with iodine solution or hydrogen peroxide if you think that the added stress of netting the fish is worth it. Keep the water in the tank as pristine as you can and add a bit of salt as well (1 tbsp/5g). The disease tends to show up more often in warm weather than in cold. Watch out for secondary infections, good luck

thanks for the help everyone but sorry to say it was to late... not sure what im going to do now
