Hey all,

Tired of paying 2-3 bucks for an anonymous snippet of music from a song YOU already OWN????

Here's a quick, fairly simple method to making custom ringtones for your phone.(personally own a Moto, but should work for most).

1) download Audacity..free, simple to use.
2) download LAME (Lame Aint an MP3 Encoder)..Its not an app, but Audacity will require it to work properly.
3) Open desired MP3 in Audacity and cut/paste/invert/loop/echo,etc.. to the 10-30 sec track desired.
4) Got your track ready?? Good. now its time to "Export as MP3" under the file menu. Heres where LAME comes in. You will be asked the first time to locate the file 'lame_enc.dll'. This is a one time thing.
5) the saved file should now be ready to throw onto your phone.

Heres where things will likely vary for folks. See, I connect to my PC via USB cable, for those who can't, I will assume you can e-mail yourself the file.

1) I open the Removable storage device for my phone (E:) at 'my Computer'
2) Open the 'mobile' folder, then the 'audio' folder within that.
3) Drag and drop the edited MP3.
4) Disconnect mah phone and enter my multimedia/sounds location.
The new sound file will be there.
5) BUt...it has to be moved. From your Transflash Card to your Phone. (check your sound options)
6) There...now your new ring tone should be right there amongst the standard blip blips and bloop beeps!!!

Imagine the looks when NIN "closer" starts blaring while waiting to pay for gas.

I am sure there are many other techniques/methods to buckin the system, but this one worked for me, a fairly illiterate PC user. And Audacity is pretty cool, I'm making a Slayer CD for Karaoke night as I type.......yeah!
