Has anyone ever watched the Blue Planet videos? I own the set and love these movies. Some of the greatest footage ever! But if you watch the special features at the end of the last movie It just both sadens me and makes you wanna slap the planet! The f*ckers that are useing cyanide to gather reef fish for the pet intustry! Killing entier reefs and about two weeks later the same fish when you buy it! This is just one example. Although I highly recomend these movie to anyone. I just had to vent, and wanted some of your thoughts.

**** cyanide!!!!!!!!!!!! promote responsible reef keeping and collecting techniques. the aquarium hobby is NOT the main cause of reef depletion. all we can do at this point is be responsible and try to reverse the bad situation that has been bestowed upon us. some of the MOST environmentally aware people i have met are REEFERS.........we need to all make ourselves aware of the problem and educate eachother about ways to stop or control it!!

No Central, I was not trying to say that the problem is because of reef fish keepers. I was saying that it is the collecters doing this illegaly who are doing the damage! The normal customer in a store has no idea if the fish has been cought this way, and they really have no idea why a couple weeks later their fish dies from organ falior. You are right though we do have a obligation to educate the mass. Have them ask the shop owner if they are aware of how there fih are being cought?

:screwy: My Buddy here has the right idea...

Encourage your LFS to only carry MAC, Marine Aquarium Council, approved fish, they certify suppliers who do not use destructive catch methods.

That really upsets me that they do this also. =( The keys have small reefs and I know alot of us FL people and esp people in the keys donate money or w/e and alot of people here try to buy boats to donate for reefs and other such things, I got to watch the sinking of a boat to help a reef once, it was pretty neat to watch. I learned alot about this when I took a trip with the top 100 science students in the grade to the keys to a Marine camp. We learned alot went diving, saw reefs, I am glad to say that they actually have marine cops underwater constatnly patroling the reefs. We took night classes and labs to learn about fish, people destroying reefs, and fish damages and stuff, it upsets me alot. I ve written letters to our representing congress members before but didnt get much back. =( I know that hasnt much to do with big issues in other countries but I think even helping out reefers here that are being damaged is good.
