ok so my fish are to the size now where i would really like to bulk them up they are already showing great color as i give them a pretty varied diet.....so today i got a wild hair up my arse and decided i wanted to make some beefheart mix. my GF bro buys the pre-made cubes and i know they are mostley water and nothing but beefheart, i wanna make something that is will be really grood for them. ok so after doing some lookin around at what alot of ppl use i decided to go to the store and do a somewhat basic not to complicated mix.

1 beefheart

couple packs of the cocktail shrimp de-shelled

peas

spinach

wheat germ

brewers yeast

some crushed up multi vits

fish oil capsules

garlic

pectin for gellin

gonna also mix in some of their fish food that they don't really eat w/ such enthusiasim...

so anyone else out there make their own mixtures???

how bout some recipes you guys use whether it's for discus or large carnivours lets have em!!

Akskirmish if you're out there lemme know and i'll bring ya up some tomorrow. if things work out

made loach food once.. nothing with beefheart.. do a good write up and keep us posted on how it goes

what all when into your loach food? i have 7 clowns in my 125......they finally cruise around together, only had 3 at first then lost one.

ok so i just got done puttin the last baking sheet into the freezer. i'll let ya know what all went into this batch.

so first off i trimmed all the fat/veins membrane, sinue all that nasty crap off the beef heart, then i diced it up really good. i don't have access to a meat grinder so i just diced er up really good. i also pulled the tails off about 1lb of big cocktail shrimp. separated them and rinsed them under cold water. i then boiled my diced carrots and peas and spinach, drained the water from the carrots but kept the water from the spinach to add to the meat when i had to blend it. i've got a really nice Oyster brand w/ all metal drive so it didn't burn up......i did give it a break and mixed by hand for a bit. the meat wouldnt really chopped up so i had to add the spinach water and help it w/ a spoon constantly stopping to add more heart and shrimp as well as flip the mixture. once the meats were good and ground up i washed all the equip and then mixed the greens i also crushed up a centrum multi and some vit c tablets......squeezed like 6 fish concentrate oil into the mix. added a table spoon of brewers yeast......mainly bought it to put on my pop corn try it its better than salt!! i then added like 2 table spoons of wheat germ, added some flake food they don't care for. then i mixed both the meat and the vegs together till it was completely mixed even ran it through the blender on low for a short period jus to make sure it was all mixed in good. i then added 2 packets of pectin and mixed it well, then i got some baking sheets and lined them w/ wax paper and spooned the mixture on to it and then spread it really thin like 1/4-1/2 inch, only had 2 bakin sheets so the rest i put into ziplock bags and then spread it out really thin......ok so it's just chillin in the deep freeze at the moment. here are some pics of this gnarley concoction hope they eat this stuff!!!
