hey guys

the one i made before is working good, but with no propper trickle plate i feel it could work better,

luckily for me i found out about a free 3ft tank, so i went and picked it up. it came with fish lol

gold fish to be precise now one was a beast nearly 7" long, so i took the to the lfs and traded in, got £10 for them, so that paid for my aquatic silicone lol

i also got two air pumps, under gravel filter and an internal filter, aswell as a luminaire. cool eh

anyways heres the tank-its a rio

in the middle of cleaning, next step is to get some plexiglass/acrylic and start cutting,

the tank is 2ft x 1.5ft x 1ft giving approx 33gals when ful,

what percent should the sump be filled too?

im thinking a third of the way?

more pics to follow hehehehe

How much did you get all that for? Sounds like a great pick up.[/

Is it 3ft or 2ft? 36" x 18" x 12" divided by 276 for imperial (UK) gallons is 28gallons.. Were you calculating for US gallons?

I think that would depend on the design...

Sorry - more questions than help!! I'll try to do better next time!

Have a look at this sticky - makes it look so easy, I'm thinking of doing one myself!

Also depends on flow rate too, but 1/3 is a good point to shoot for.

How about a sketch?

lol

you answered your own question ha ha " i got a free tank " it was all for free so a very good deal,

as for calculations i used the top of this site, its an american site, so i thought most users would be american.

i have looke through the full diy section, and have about 16 pages saved on making sumps lol so i have a fairly good idea as too what i want,

i think its difficult calculating flow rate though. the pump im using is a 1500 gph but at a head height of 1 metre, so thats down to atleast 1200gph, then i turned it down some too, my overflow is 1 1/4" pipe and is flowing very well,

im really gutted.

i had a quick look in my hme made sump, and i've made a death trap, its currently unplugged and not being used. the over flow sucked down my bn plec and two baby loachs, whats best to block off the top so water passes but not fish?

here are some, pics, got the glass cut by a friend, cost £5. bargin, then set about sticking it in, i have done one side first, and when set i will do the other side

hoping to get it in for saturday, in the compartment before the pump section, what sponge is best to use, really fine filter stuff?

Looks real good so far.

Lots of tape:WHOA:
Should make for a nice clean setup, look forward to seeing it complete.

pleanty of tape, making sure it stays square lol

i measured under the tank stan, it will just fit, lol bit of good luck for a change ha ha

im going to get a 400 micron sock for the overflow and make a safety top so i dont suck any more fish over.

jake

ps more pics in the morning minus tape :)
