I am not a fan of notching the corners. I designed my like this one.

If you have the ability to make precise square cuts to notch the legs then I'd say go for it. A lot of the stands I see have double 4x2 legs and the second one mostly seems to be for rholding things in place, you could avoid it and have a similar strength stand by notching the legs.

I found some actual cabinets on Craigslist. I sanded them and painted them and added brass handles and knobs on the doors and drawers. It looks real nice and has ample space for storage and canister filtration.

Standard kitchen cabs are 24" deep and bathroom cabs are around 20"
This route might be less time consuming than building a base. It also might look better as a finished product depending on how skilled of a builder you are.

Just something to consider. Good luck with the project.

fish i thought about that design but i was thinking it would be overkill and to heavy thats why i tried the combo of 4x4s and 2x4s all 4x4s felt heavy when i was picking them all up

how did you bolt or screw those 4x4 corners to each other?
you just need another friend that can lift over 150lbs and you're good. I had my build by a friend and it's not too heavy at all. Here is a pic on how the pieces so you can get a better view how things are screw together. For extra strength you could add wood glue.
