I have a ornate and a senegal together in a grow out tank right now. they dont seem to eat alot, i almost never see them eat but i do realize some food in the bellies sometimes but not very often. even live worms they dont seem to want anymore. the senegal still eats more but it seems to be gettin less n less.

my water params are:

pH= 7.5
Ammonia = 0
NO2 = less than 0.3 mg/l
NO3 = 50mg/l

the nitrates are a little bit high, could that be the cause of their loss in apatite? the only solution to that is more water changing right?

My nitrates are sky high over 100ppm yet they still eat. I notice they feed more at higher temps. Mine is at 30-31deg. Also try fsh meat. Makes them more excited :D

My senegal doesn't eat a whole lot from what i see, but i do leave shrimp for him over-night and they are always gone the next morning, and he has a belly. Try leaving some food overnight for them....chances are they are getting their fair share of food.

Ok ill try it tonite ill leave them some food. maybe the people traffic infront of the tank is stressin them...

well u seem to be doing everything right. They should be fine. You'll see their growth weekly, and they should pack on 1-1 1/2 in. per month and deffinetly some girth. Just keep power feeding.

yea try feeding them at night, that's when my polys pig out

My palmas and my ornate, are both pretty shy, but my senegals are out all the time, but they all took some coaxing to come out. They do prefer to do they're eating at night, but after a while they should start to come out. Mine really dig frozen krill, bloodworms, and my senegals love small crayfish, from time to time.

I usually have problems with them stopping eating thats all they do!

I have the opposite problem, I have 2 ornates and 4 delhezi in a tank and the delhezi are pigs, always begging for food! They are fat!! The ornates hide more and are basicly cylindrical from head to tail, but the delhezi are much fatter behind the head. I am afraid to put them on a diet, least they eat my bala sharks!

Mine eat sinking shrimp pellets, algea wafers, freeze dried krill, couple of bala sharks and a flying fox!:)
