My juvenile Festae hate their tank lights. I only see them when the lights are off. Otherwise they hide in the rocks and plants until all is dark. Other than switching to dimmer lights, are there any other ways to damper the tank lights? I have also thought of getting floating plants. What are some other techniques that you may have found that will help.

If you don't want to buy new lights, you could partially shield the ones you have with aluminum foil. Floating plants would work too. You might want to also consider moonlights for nighttime viewing.

Aluminum foil? See, that's what I'm talking about, Bob. I would have never come close to even thinking about using that! I will try that. I plan on getting moonlights soon. Keep the advice coming. You can never know too much in this hobby!

I like the idea of floating some plants, help out with excess nitrogen, create oxygen, and make shade all at the same time.

I just want to make sure that I don't put anything flamable between my lights and the glass lids. That has been my main concern. What plants could I use that won't get sucked in the in-tank basket? I'll also look out for artificial floating plants too. Thanks, guys for the ideas. Keep them coming.
