I'm thinking about trying my mala in my 120g oddball tank. Right now he has a 50 breeder to himself. Who has had good luck mixing a wolf fish with other fish? Mine is just 7" so not huge, the other tankmates in the 120 range from 4.5 - 16" and are all fairly mellow.

The key with this is usually to start the mala when its young so it gets accustomed to sharing the tank. Although 7in isnt bad, but some are nasty around this size...LOL. As long as their is adequate space and the fish that will be his tankmates are of equal size or larger and mellow it could work. Larger cichlids tend to be territorial and pick on the wolf at first till they find out thats not a good idea. Wolves rarely back down from fights. But just make sure u have adequate space, good amount of hiding spaces, and keep an eye on everything. It def. can be done under the right circumstances just dont wait till the wolf becomes a MONSTER and STINGY with his space....LOL....GOOD LUCK...;)

growing them out with other fish when theyre young is the best.
like sevendreamz has stated.
i have three currently with gars, african aro,SH,and a few barramundis.

my mala has jsut been moved to his very own 75 at 10". He really does look far too small in there at the moment but today i have noticed indredibly agressive tendancies. its a semi planted tank where he has room to hide as well as open areas to wander the substrate. Earlier i walked up to the tank to check the water qualities as it is 2 weeks into its cycle to find him baring his teeth, gills wide and following me arround with his eyes. I investigated only for him to shoot towards the glass, not hitting it but really baring his teeth. My only conclusion is it's territorial behaviour and having only been in the tank 3 days he is trying to stake his claim to the whole thing. Still though; He is only small and acting like that. I would be very worried about tank mates.

I tried my chap with an 11" livingstonii when i bought him home at jsut 6" and within 30 mins he had already wounded the livingstonii. It was a massive wakeup call so i would really recommend leaving him on his own. It jsut seems like no matter how well he a mala behaves with other fish, it is that one day when another fish gets a bit too close...

...if you know what i mean. They have enough character to warrent their own tank thats for sure!

Yea I pretty much decided to leave him in the 50 breeder by himself. It has the same footprint as your 75 but only 13" tall. He's been in there since he was 4.5" so he's use to being in solitary.

my wolves are currently rarely at the bottom.
theyre scared of my channa striata.
they cant even defend themselves from a lil channa.
