Have any of you kept Malawi and Tanganyikan cichlids together? What have been your experiences?

A local breeder near me has several Xenotilapia and I have wondered about adding them to my Peacocks and Haps tank. After a little research, it looks like it might not be a great idea, but I am curious if any of you have tried it.

Or with any of the Tanganyikans really. My tank has room for one more round of fish and I am kindof looking for some different shapes.

Definitely not a good idea. Xenotilapia cannot stand much pressure or competition from other fish.
If you want something looking like Xenotilapia I would go for Callochromis. They know how to stand their ground. But they might be too much for some of the peacocks.

I have kept a number of Tangs with Malawi...none with good results. No one died, but the Tang behaviors were minimized. They seemed much happier in a Tang-only tank, both before and after their stay with Malawi. With peacocks and haps: leleupi, tret, calvus, brevis.

Synodontis multipunctatus or lucipinnis work with the various types of Malawi.
