Does Malawi bloat occur in Peacocks as well? I was planning to feed my peacocks a variety of food besides NLS pellets so they can get into breeding shape in the next couple of weeks.

I have one female and one male peacock that breed before but he did not fertilize the eggs a couple of weeks back (How long does it take for a female that just bred two weeks ago to breed again). I just bought a variety of frozen food such as blood worms, Mysis shrimp and brine shrimp yesterday an was wondering if i can make them part of my daily feeding routine. I separated the male to his own tank and the female to my SA tank (she tends to eat more and gets along with my Geo's than the male peacock). I am going to feed them a constant mix of all four variety of food i mentioned above at least everyday or every 2-3 days. Is that advisable? will it cause Bloat for my peacock?

thanks

Yes they can get bloat. As for a mixed variety of food, that is never a bad thing. A varied diet is good. I personally avoid feeding bloodworms, beefheart and tubifex to my africans (From my experience and what I have read they can cause problems). I would maybe look into doing the brine shrimp, mysis shrimp and some krill (can be freeze dried - it will sink), small inverts are probably the best choice. Shrimp pellets with the NLS is something else you can think about too, you can get those in sinking form. Adding a little veggie would prob be good as well. I would just do research on the fish, its diet and the labels on the NLS and any other food source see what mix you want to do to make sure the fish is getting enough protien, but also some veggie as well.
