What other types of fish could i get to go in a Malawian Cichlids tank ?

100Gal tank with two Tetratec1200's and a sand substrate . The tank is not set up yet but i will be setting it up as soon as i get my 240Gal tank and swop the fish about . So i at the moment i am getting some ideas on what fish i could get for the 100Gal tank and i think i have settled on a largeish group of Malawian Cichlids but was thinking could put some other types of fish in with them . I have 3 Synodontis Eupterus i have heard they are ok with the Cichlids , yes or no ?

Also how many Malawian's do you all think i could get for the 100Gal ?

You will want to stay away from auratus and johanni (plus any related melanchromis species) they are super highly aggressive. If you want to keep those species then keep only one species one male and many females for him. Elongatus is supposed to also be aggressive . If you want some haps then what about a all male tank ? Some venustus, blue dolphin, red empress, borleyi, malawi eyebiter etc.. You can sometimes mix haps and mbuna together if you go with species of mbuna that are not highly aggressive such as yellow labs and the yellow tailed acie. The other species IMO would shred the haps fins real bad when they reach maturity. Im sure there are some that are able to do it in super big tanks but i found they were too aggressive and ended up seperating mine, i had red zebra, elongatus, johanni (till it killed most of the mbuna it was with) and several other mbuna species. I ended up keeping the yellow labs and acei with my haps and peacocks, it worked good and looked great !!.

I kept fronts with malawi cichlids before, though others will tell you it will never work it worked great for me. If I was setting up a tank though and wanted it for looks, I'd go all male malawi. I have a 300 in my office and have some very large peacock males in with some large haps. Great look and they get along just dandy. Synodontis Eupterus will do fine with just about anything african, btw.

malawi is a really misleading term, which type with the fronts, how long? These make a difference. Live or thrive?

I would think the list you gave will work but not the venustus. It will eat some of your fish when full grown, and get a bit big for the tank...

Ok , that list i posted up is from a website/ shop that sells alot of diffrent tropical fish and has a opion to choose how many Malawi's you what and then they will choose a mixed lot for you out of the list that i posted before .

According to what I've seen it really just depends on what you like, just leave plenty of space for each fish.

ditch the venustus-it will get about 8-9 inches long and eat your smaller fish. your synos will be fine in there! lol
