are victorians much less colorful as juvis then malawis? i see pics of vics as juvis and most of em seem to be just a silver color and when i see tiny tiny tiny malawis for sale at lfs they seem to be very colorful already. sorry if this is widely known but i'm just starting to dable in victorians and this was something i observed.

depends on the species, and how pure the strain is, a good strain of vics ime will color at as early as an inch, but only the male colors

Some victorians depending on the species will color up at an inch, others will take time to develop. Haplochromis ruby green for example, will color up at one inch. Their color will also depend on their moods, whether they are stressed, or dominant, etc. Don't let the silver coloring fool you when they are juveniles. Victorians will go under extreme drastic color changes when growing. It will stun you how different and amazing they will turn out to be. But other than that, malawian cichlids such as mbuna will show color at an earlier age.
