I finally got the chance to take pictures of my new babies, so here they are....

First the male, Jim:

I'm loving that reverse stripe...I've got a feeling he's going to be a nice rich red :)

And here's Pam, who is unlikely ever to have Jim's babies:

Pam I believe will end up being a yellow adult. I've seen yellowish hatchling bloods that turn out reddish-brown, but I mean look at this snake...not a hint of red anywhere. I've got high hopes for her, and I'd really love if that maize pattern thing she's got going on in her background color stays with her as she matures. If I can find a male who looks like this, oh boy....I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

And of course this post wouldn't be complete without a picture or two of the one and only Daphne, because however worthless the big blood breeders think she'd be to breeding programs, she's still the coolest snake ever.

love them!

Awesome snake! This reminds me.. the other day I was looking at the snakes at a local pet store when the owner took a bite from a carpet python to his face. It was around 4 feet. How are these guys' temperament?

ahhh blood python temperment....It's not nearly as bad as I'm sure you've heard. Of course babies of pretty much any species are naturally more nervous so you have to be more gentle when handling them. Baby bloods can range anywhere from just-don't-touch-the-head ones to the downright nasty get-your-leather-gloves ones, but juveniles of all temperments seem to calm down around two years old. Adult temperments can vary; I've got a pair of Borneos which have always been a little on the nervous side but never bitey although I'm always extra careful when I handle them. But Daphne....let me put it this way: the only reason I would not put Daphne and a small child together is that I would be worried about Daphne's safety.

thank you everyone! I'm glad my snakes are so well-received.
